Getting Started

Since Simon has told the class about our next project there are somethings that I’ve being wondering about. This post is pretty much a big disorganised brainstorm.
First things first:

According to the assessment criterial demonstrate my research and my personal development is not an option; therefore, I have created this blog. Now, whether it is going to help improving as an artist or not I still don’t know. I’ve being thinking about posting videos in this blog instead of writing but, I’m not quite sure. At one point it could be fun but, It might consume more time than writing. Let’s see….
What is this project about?
I’ve just look at myuca trying to find more information about this project but I didn’t succeed. So far, this is what I know:
The theme of the project is ‘TIME’ . – the way I want to explore it is pretty much my choice
The final piece must have 3 different screens with 01minute each in a loop video . something like:

What have I being thinking?
To be honest, since Simon told us (13/12/13) how the final piece should be displayed a not-so-old idea has been  wondering about. Two weeks before this project briefing I saw a picture on tumblr that gave me an idea for a gif.  I have being trying to find it but it seems to have disappeared. I can remember that it reminded of one of Andy Warhol pieces. something like :
but with no Marilyn Monroes .

Because I was using tumblr, I thought that the picture would be a Gif instead. In addition, for no apparently reason I thought that whatever the squares would interact among themselves. An easier way of explaining it is to use a circle instead of Ms. Monroe:

something like that but, with the squares equally divided and they looked like different screens. Maybe this example wasn’t the best but, at least the interaction bit, I believe, is clear.  Hard to explain how my mind works… Right after I saw that, I thought about making  a gif which I would be running through the screens.  I thought about 4 screens, each one of them would have  different miss-en-scenes and I would interact with all of them.  I really don’t know how I have made the connection between the 4 screen gifs and the following scene from How I Met Your Mother:

Yes, I thought that I could run naked throughout the screens but, the different miss-en-scene would always cover my parts. Is this idea connected with the subject given “Time”? I don’t know. Will I use this idea to the project? I don’t know.  The first thing I want to do now is to find out “What does time means to me”.
I have typed the world “time” in the UCA library catalogue and thousands of material came up. Because of this I’m thinking about to separate time in different strands such as physics, psychology, arts, science and so on…. But, at the moment all I want is to have a general idea of how time is defined/expressed by those strands.  I had a really quick look at the book Time – by Katinka Ridderbos (ed), Published by Cambridge University Press – and I found a quote that transcribe what I though when Simon asked “What does that means to you?”
“What is time? St. Augustine famously claimed that he knew the answer as long as no one asked him for it, but as soon as he tried to explain it he no longed knew.”
The writer continues:
“Part of the problem is the intricate nature of the question. Every individual will approach the question “What is time”? from a different perspective. We find ourselves asking whether time is linear or cyclic, whether it is endless, whether it is possible to travel in time, how the experience of the flow of time arises, how our own internal clock are regulated ad how our language captures the temporality of our existence.”
