Fields and Frames #11

REHEARSAL 22/04/2015

This rehearsal was the chance for me to check both technical issues I might have as well as the performance itself.

Firstly, I called my sister through FaceTime  (who is playing the character of my aunt), so we could rehearsal the dialogue and timed it.

After that, Bruno (actor) and I practiced and timed the rest of the performance.

Taking into account that the call to 'my aunt' took around 10 minutes (it varied, as we practiced more than once), all the rest had to take less than 15minute; which would be 25 minutes in total. This is because, which student has 30 minutes to present his/her piece; and if anything goes wrong I still would have 5 minutes.
Because the whole performance, as we rehearsal, was longer then 30 minutes, I decided to  decided to compile the part were I explain about my research.

Fields and Frames #10

REHEARSAL 16/04/2015

The main purpose for this rehearsal was for me to test the equipment I'm going to use on the actually performance.

The performance will have two screens: the first screen will show the slides related to my research and my 4th birthday's video; the second screen will be a video projection, of myself aged 3, on a balloon.

The first screen will be connected to my computer through a media control. My concern, regarding this screen, is to only show the necessary. By that, I mean that, I don't want the screen to show nothing else them the videos and pictures themselves; I want to be able to control and show these videos and pictures without the need to open different softwares. As I believe that would make the performance loose its pace. Therefore, I've downloaded a trial version of Resolume Avenue 4 which is a app used normally by VJs and allows me to display only an specific output on the first screen.

The second screen will be projected on a balloon by an USB stick. On this first rehearsal I notice that I will need a bigger balloon, which I will buy on Amazon .

Although it wasn't the main purpose, on this rehearsal I actually rehearsal a part of the performance itself and filmed it.  By filming it I can try to improve the text and the body acting.

You're Late - Song

My original idea was to use a song when any of my colleagues get in late in class, during my presentation. To make sure I was going to use it, I was planing to ask at least one of my colleagues to arrive late in class. In addition, the lyrics would appear on the screen, as we can see at the beginning of the first draft.
I've asked a friend of mine to compose the song. I told him the key words I'd like him to use as well as the music style. Overall, I'm really happy if the song's final version ("second draft video". The only reason for me not using it was to keep the whole piece sharp. I reckon it would be rather chaotic to have this song played at ay point of my presentation. This was an argument that both Rosie and Owen have pointed out, and I've agreed.

"The Email" - First Draft - 12/04/15

I decided to try and do a test video of a joke about my feeling towards blogging and the fact that I just started blogging after receiving an email from Rosie. Overall, considering that this video is just a draft, I think it works, nevertheless not in the piece (performance) as a whole.

According to the script I wrote, this video would be shown when I start to talk about my research. i reckon that, by showing this video (a final version though), it could make the audience to think the story about me being sick could be a lie.

This is because I was already using some comedy at the beginning of my presentation; and accepting Rosie and Owen feed back (tutorial on 17/04) I agreed that it the funny part should be separated from the serious one, which includes my research and the "story of a balloon'.

Tutorial with Owen Davey and Rosie Gunn - prep

Tutorial sessions have always had great importance in my projects. It's an opportunity to exchange ideas and receive professional feed back. I've been said, in my first year, that showing might be better than explaining. Therefore, for this tutorial, I decided to show some of my previous work; I've chosen fragments which I believe are strong and have relevance to my Fields&Frames project.

The three elements (location, music and behind scenes) stressed on this video are a constant in my work and I want to keep exploring them. Still regarding the video above, the scenes I wasn't on camera I was actually the cameraman and all of the sequences had been edited by me.

Furthermore, It is still not clear how I will put my final piece together. It's quite clear, on the other hand, what  my intention is: to explore new formats of online content. I believe, the way we watch TV is different from how we do  online. That might be, one of the reasons why videos produced for a online platform  are different from TV.

Online videos are relatively new, considering that major platform YouTube has only completed ten years last February. All the different content (makeup, news, geeky, diary, cookery, etc…)  explored on Vlogs are good example of formats that have been created for the Internet.

I've being built brainstorms in order to narrow down my ideas ….
