Time Art - Final Evaluation

It's been a long time since my last post for Time Art. Working on four different projects and an essay, made it very difficult for me to keep blogging.
So, because I'wont be able to attend the 'hand in session' tomorrow I've handed in today.

Am I happy if the final result?
Yes

Could it be better?
Oh Yes!

So, what have I learned since this unit started?
I believe the biggest impact this module has had on me was, for my surprise, the manner in which I look to art. I must confess that I wasn't keen on the whole idea of art and I didn't even want to understand it.  Having to research on other artist's work to get inspired by, has actually done much more than that. I had the opportunity to get to know magnificent artists such as, Issac Julien whose last film installation (Playtime) I had the opportunity to see. Not to mention the pioneer Nam June Paik; the contemporary Bill Viola; Vito Acconci whose idea of spreading art by doing it in public places I'm very keen. Even the artists which I didn't enjoy - either because I didn't understand they work or simply because I don't like their pieces in terms of aesthetics - helped by making me aware of what I don't want to produce (at least not at the moment).

Although I really liked the artists above cited, I tend to go to o more 'funny' and 'colourful' path on my own work. That has also being researched and uploaded on this blog (http://ulyssesoclock.blogspot.co.uk/p/collage.html). I have tried to come up with different ideas and approaches for this project. But at the end my final work is a confirmation of my personal taste, previously cited on my post Collage that says: "Recently, I've realised that I like films/cartoons that use old black and white footage and stills."

In terms of technical issues I have worked on Adobe After Effects before and thus, it wasn't something completely new for me. Nevertheless, I've improved my AE skills and things such as Key framing, stabilisation and tracker. Moreover, I've my first contact with Adobe Illustrator and I actually did all right. However, there a lot to be learn and I will soon start my Lynda.com course about it. Getting to learn Illustrator will allow me to better explores and produce to kind of work I like - see the post collage. I have also became aware of how some codecs (animation, h.264, jpge sequence), but I still have to learn them all in a proper way.

On my final piece I've taken into account the feed back given by Simon. Therefore, I've added a train station as a scenario and given up using the colour red to portray my feeling on the moment a whistle is blew. Seem my final work now, I must admit he was right. By adding a scenario, not only my work has improved visually, but I could also add three pictures that help me portraying the message I want.
Furthermore, I footage that shows the Army; this is because the army, for me, portrays the idea of obligation. - On the age of 17, in Brazil, one must enrol with the army. Whether one goes to army or not it will be decided by the military; I really didn't want to go. -
Finally, I believe the final piece portray my feelings and gets the message across. However, maybe it would be better if it had more variation in terms of footage.
